I have always been interested in the science of color: how complimentary colors mute each other when mixed together. Of course equal amounts of the two hues create a gray however when bits of one or the other color are blended interesting more complex tones are created. For this piece I mostly used orange to tone down the blues creating subtle yet distinguishable differences in the blue tones. I do use a bit of black at times but find the most interesting muted colors come from mixing its compliment. The variations are endless and I am always finding "new" muted colors in my process.
