In this linocut collage, I surrounded Frida with a crown of thorns plant. I've always loved these plants. Euphorbia Milii, says Mr. Google. The thorns make them rather treacherous, but their pink blossoms provide a wonderful counterpoint! And they're perfect for Frida who was certainly afflicted with thorns during her emotionally and physically painful life. And who is still an inspiring flower for people everywhere! I also added the crow, one of the smartest birds there is. I'm sure Frida loved her corvids!
I drew these images onto linoleum, carved out the negative space, printed them with black ink onto white paper, cut them out, painted them with watercolor and gouache and reassembled them with 3M adhesive spray.
