Artist's description:
Based on former visual and emotional experience of their perceptions, people have gathered a complex of knowledge that they use by default. Due to this complex of knowledge, it is enough for us to look at simple geometric shapes from one angle only in order to decide which exact geometric shape we look at. This property of human perceptions unlocks our ability to frame up, to build in our mind. In this way the spatial forms are easily and quickly identifiable, they become communicative.
The design in my project called “Fragment of something bigger” is based on confronting opposite and contrasting geometric shapes – a sphere and a cube. Moreover I use the relationship between the inner and the outer space as a formula to determine the vision of the project. The outer space is oval and complete. The inner space is formed by multiple intersecting walls, corners and edges. Through so composed elements I aim to suggest a sense of architecture, of strategic planning, but also to remind the complexity of the human nature.
This sculpture is made by making openings from the surface towards the core. The cross-section is formed by parallel or perpendicular walls. They always join at right angles of 90 degrees. Thus three spatial planes are clearly constructed – height, length and width.
