This lovely painting, although small, creates a soothing yet questioning impact as the eye discovers the details and the motif begins to sink in. The place does actually exist although the painting is a composite arrangement of the details. The city of Carmona in the province of Seville in Andalucia, Spain is the location and its history goes back to the beginning, as everything does. This patio is in the arabesque quarter of the city yet displays neoclassical design in the masks...quite an unique combination. The male and female elements are perfectly described in these masks and the fountain, representing the source, completes the third element of creation.
Strangely, this painting does not take a good colour photograph. The real colour is incredible and creates a depth of entrance in the foreground which has to be experienced.
