This is the first painting of the FOUND: New Orleans series, a series of abstract paintings featuring found items from the streets of New Orleans.
My studio is in the downtown area of New Orleans, an area full of beautiful old buildings and warehouses that are being renovated into hip residences and businesses. On a recent walk, I found some sheet metal discarded outside the old Civic Theater. I found it to be unique and raw, with colors and textures that can only happen with time and chance.
I took it to the studio because it inspired me to do a painting. One thing led to another and I played around with the idea of incorporating the piece itself into a painting. After cutting, sanding and gluing it onto a canvas, this amazing piece was born.
