This is an extremely joyful, colourful and intricate artwork packed full of tiny hand stitched fabrics, with little painted leaves and strawberries contained within the painted concentric circles which surround the photograph of the beautiful dancing gypsy women. I purchased the photograph from a private seller (it's a re print), and would estimate the photograph was taken during the 1920's; it was sold to me described as pre 1950's.
The tops of the 3 trees each feature a Swarovski bead, with smaller Swarovski beads being made into miniature tree like shapes in front of 3 of the 4 green mountain features beneath the clouds and vibrant dripping sunshine!
A large portion of the work is made out of tiny embroidered fabrics. If you look at the close up photographs, you will be able to see all the tiny stitches. Some of these fabrics have been made into leaf shapes, whilst others are rectangular and square in shape.
We'll probably never know where the gypsy women were at the time the photo was taken, but when I saw this image, the thought of creating a vibrant and earthly, yet other worldly setting felt very inspiring. It's been a lot of fun to make this piece, and I've let it take its own path by building the piece up in small stages and making decisions as the piece evolved, rather than planning it all out at the start.
Forest Sparkle Party forms part of a collection called 'Stitches in Time', the other piece in this collection is 'Beauty Queen'. This collection will be made up of artworks utilising old photographs which are given a new environment to exist in. Ampersand panels are eco-friendly. The work can be hung by simply popping a nail into the wall, and placing the Ampersand panel onto the nail ~ the work will then sit flush against the wall.
The sides of the panel have not been painted, instead they remain in their natural wood coloured state.
