Artist's description:

In the equatorial forests of Africa lives the okapi, discovered by science only in the early twentieth century because of it's quiet sensitive purposeful demeanor the okapi is a big as a horse yet maintains the characteristics of the giraffe browsing and keeping it's huge ears eyes tuned into it's immediate surrounds and it must be exactly theses senses that have enabled the okapi to remain so elusive, obviously the easy way to make contact with it is to destroy the environment that created it and replace it with a habitat similar to our own image at this time; for an artist like me this would be a disaster, as a wildlife artist it would be like an execution when I have no feeling for painting glamore, fame, status and wealth. These things aren't a pinch on an okapi living the big life in the deepest wilderness.
