I absolutely love Hydrangeas.
I love watching them burst into bloom like flowery fireworks. I love their structure and vibrant colour when they are new and I enjoy watching them become rusty and frilly as late October draws near.
They were in my wedding bouquet, so they also fill me with happy memories.
I love how their colour can change depending on the pH of the soil and how this can be manipulated to make them more vibrant.
Like many of my other paintings I become obsessive with the simple outline and patterns in nature. I then paint them in a bold and highly decorative manner.
