'A gray day provides the best light.' (Leonardo da Vinci)
There has been more than just a considerable amount of rain here lately, and the countryside is saturated, leaving most of the paddocks and fields flooded. I can only assume that Leonardo was talking about light with respect painting, and certainly the diffused light coming through the clouds did provide a harmony of greys, which permeated the painting.
This canvas was painted en pein air rather quickly, as I was anxious that the weather would do what it eventually did, turn back and rain me out!
