This artwork is part of my brand new "Blue Reverie" series featuring spectacularly oversized flowers and leaves in bold abstract colours.
This artwork explores a more muted colour range including some lovely pale mint greens, some lovely soft green / greys and some dark blues. Muted is defined as “of low intensity and reduced volume or softened. Subdued or restrained”. To me, it is the softness aspect of the word muted that speaks to me. Muted colours have an intoxicating depth to them. Fundamentally, colours are muted once they get lighter or darker than their most vibrant cousins - they can either be pale or dark and rich. But muted doesn’t automatically mean pale or without impact. Muted colours can be rich and decadent. Opulent and even sexy. And when combined with other muted colours (particularly in the paler range such as soft mint green in this case), they can add complexity and texture.
