Artist's description:

This is another study of my wife, pregnant with our son, to be born in May, holding my younger son Elliot, and my older son Griffin in the foreground. Once again, evocative of classical depictions of Mary in the desert, and the Flight into Egypt.

I have been affected deeply lately by the situation with refugees and immigration, and this theme came to mind, as a way of expressing that even Jesus was a refugee that needed to flee for his life with his family.

Materials used:

sanguine chalk pastel heightened with white on light grey-green paper
