This 16 x 20 (canvas size only) original acrylic painting is the first of my Ballet des Fleurs series. It is framed. I love florals, and upon completion of this piece, I decided to begin a series in my signature style. I plan to add to this series throughout my painting career. So far, all of the paintings in this series have been started en plein air and finished in the studio. They are embellished with metallic acrylic paint and very fun. The series came about by the inspiration of a couple of friends. I was asking for help in titling this first one I did of the irises--one friend suggested that the painting reminded her of a ballet, and another said, "Why not call it Iris d' Fleur?" Ta-dah! --the idea for a series, Ballet des Fleurs, was born. This particular piece was inspired by the irises growing in my art mentor's backyard. I used to take group lessons from Lillian Kennedy. She encouraged us to paint en plein air in her backyard quite often. When her irises were in bloom, they were so delightful and beautiful that I really wanted to paint them. The day that I went prepared to do that, it had recently rained. The tops of the irises were a little beat down by the rain, so I decided to just do something fun with them. After several sessions in my studio, I was happy with the way the painting looked and I declared it completed. I hope it brings you as much happiness as it has brought to me.
