Artist's description:

Shortly after returning from Vietnam, I was invited to join some other soldiers on a fishing trip to Galveston. We spent the night on the water, drinking beer and telling war stories. I was still running on scared and was using a lot of bad language. The fire made a lot of noise and we all jumped. It broke the tension and we all laughed and felt lucky we had made it back. I wanted to capture the feeling that fishing trips always bring to mind.

I wanted to create a sense of quiet and so I mixed my colors by blending them carefully, rendering the colors muted and peaceful. I think the mixing fits the trend of today's decorator colors and follows Liquitex's move to introduce new colors following this theme of muted colors. To me, muted means suspense and calm, a kind of sense that life is good, like the welcome lull when two friends realize that words are unnecessary.
