Fish 'n' Chips is from a series of paintings based around childhood memories. When you were young Fish and Chips was always a big holiday treat, especially when eaten outside from newspaper with your fingers. This picture is based on Polperro in Cornwall, but only loosely - it is really about the memories evoked.
The technique I employ uses collage on a board, which is then painted over using acrylic inks and paint. I then add further collage at the end. It is very much a layering process, working often with wet into wet. I never use brushes to apply the paint, instead using various mark-making techniques, palette knifes and rollers. This results in both a very textured picture, but also a very loose work, which reflects the memories you have of the place
