Artwork description:

This is a 14 colour reduction linocut of a foal feeding for the first time, while its tired dam stands patiently in a darkened stable with deep bedding. This is Maizy, Daisy's fifth and last foal and who will be trained as an eventer like her mother.

A reduction print means the block has been through the press once for each colour in the print, and is carved after each colour, leaving less and less surface area to ink each time. Getting the block lined up correctly each time and getting the colours (and the transitions between them) right make this process a challenging one.

Materials used:

Printmaking inks and paper
