oil on lightly gessoed raw linen canvas
48 x 48 inches
This painting is part of my Looking Back Series. These paintings started with a bold orange in the lower left quadrant of the canvas. Based on a memory, I started in a similar fashion, but then I just paint and see where it leads me.
I will always think of my mentor, the amazing and famous Larry Poons. I have been so fortunate to have had him as my advisor for some time. He doesn't come around much anymore, but I finished this one last time I saw him. The funny thing is that I see a motorcycle in there and he loves to ride! That's why I called it Finish Line, in his honor!
It is painted on the most heavenly raw linen canvas that I love because it allows for so much variation in the absorption of the paint. You can definitely tell when you see it in person.
