This painting was executed from a watercolour sketch done on a breezy day in the early summer of 2013. Allotments fascinate me: I like the tension between order and confusion; they are small communities; parcels of land divided up seemingly at random and always changing. I pass by here, often on walks through the Hermitage and up Blackford Hill in south Edinburgh. This oil painting is sold unframed. It has been painted around the edges so framing is optional.
