Artwork description:
Original, hand - made etching print depicting a feather. This was made by drawing the design onto an aluminium plate covered in a protective varnish, using a sharp needle. The plate was immersed in a corrosive solution to "burn" the line drawing into the metal. The varnish layer is removed, and more corrosive solution is applied by hand to give tone and shading. Finally, the plate is inked, and used to print the design onto paper in an etching press, a hand-cranked roller press which exerts thousands of pounds of pressure. The impression of the printing plate can clearly be seen and felt in the finished print. the image is 25 x 50 cm, on a sheet of natural white, 300gsm Hahnemüle paper 40 x 70 cm. This is supplied UNFRAMED, rolled up in a tube.
