A life for abstract art
The artist, who signs his works Gia Hung, V. Dieu or Kim, has been living and working in Detmold/North Rhine-Westphalia for many years. But he already developed and nurtured his artistic vein in his original home country of Vietnam: at the age of 18 he was already working successfully as a portrait painter before moving to Germany in the summer of 1993 to be reunited with the family already living here.
In 2005, he began to devote himself to the self-taught study of abstract painting, which the passionate painter has pursued meticulously and intensively to this day.
He credits the internationally renowned artist Lam Triet, whose abstract art has left a clear footprint in Gia Hung's work, as an inspiring role model. From the very beginning, he focused on colour as a central means of expression, which, through spontaneity and purity that is as unmixed as possible, at the same time dynamic, fresh and expressive, constitutes the essence of his works.
He developed the necessary techniques over a long period of time and pursues their perfection almost pedantically - without losing the pleasure and joy of the creative process.
Passionate and virtuoso
"A painting must be right" - this is his guiding principle, which is applied decisively to each and every work created in his pragmatically designed studio. To achieve this, he uses, among other things, techniques that require mastery on the part of the artist in terms of their craftsmanship: In some cases, they must lead directly to the result in very quickly executed movements, which cannot be corrected afterwards, while others require controlled randomness, which also does not allow for any subsequent changes.
In this way, expressive colour compositions are created, which are also the product of his biographically conditioned openness to the world. The spontaneous and joyful approach is so strongly reflected in his works that the viewer is almost overwhelmed by the dynamism and expression that Gia Hung's paintings radiate.
He sees himself as an artist in the literal sense of the word: he is a doer, a studio artist - as such, he shuns publicity and in principle rejects the display of his work. As a gallery, we are nevertheless pleased to be able to show works by him on selected occasions, not only online but also in the context of exhibitions.
