Artist's description:

Dancing in the sea and whipping up emotions... this elegant lady in red is drawing in a storm at sea.

The image was created using a variety of media including glazes and layers of paint to create the depth of blues and greens in the sea. Plaster and brush strokes are used to show the foam and movement as she dances. Gold metal leaf is built up with oil glazes of red, adding the reflective shimmer and richness of her elegant form.

"The Spanish Lady" is the ghost of the fiancée of a Spanish Armada Sailor, captured and imprisoned at Torre Abbey in South Devon. She was on board too, dressed as a man so that she could go to sea with her husband-to-be, only to be captured and to meet her death on English shores. She is said to haunt The Spanish Barn near Torquay seafront... which is where this painting has been shown at Exhibition in April 2017
