Artist's description:

The old Daily Express building is something of an iconic structure and very distinctive. It looks very contemporary but was actually built in the 1930's. There are three of them all built in the same style although varying in detail. One in London, one in Glasgow and this one on Great Ancoats Street in Manchester. It's a building that I passed daily on my way to school and was an exciting point in the journey. As you could see through the windows onto the print floors with all the newspaper presses in action printing the next edition. Miles of paper passing at high speed before your very eyes.

This is one of my first architecture paintings in this style.

The picture is painted on watercolour paper. I create a pencil image and then go over all the lines with masking fluid before painting it with a watercolour wash which gets covered with clingfilm. Once this is removed the picture is further developed using acrylic inks which are left to dry before the masking is removed to reveal the final picture.
