This art piece was created to be featured in TEO magazine. I planned a focus on three large charcoal painted pieces to examine. I used a unique technique of painting charcoal onto canvas in ways similar to that of tattooing. I made my own special brushes to enable this effect and sealed with fixative to provide a soft acrylics effect. My focus is on the idea of life cycles- turning dead tree matter into a symbolic image of beauty and life... Positive focus from the negative... Ying and Yang. This art piece is very large and holds a strong presence in the room.
I link the dark contrast of the charcoal body forms to my emotions and philosophies on an existential purpose in life. I link the free flowing acrylic colour to my desire to think, feel, speak and share freely without negative barriers. I push the acceptance of nudity and baring skin; our skin shows the unique and beautiful journey in our life and should be celebrated.
