"We left behind the painted buoy
That tosses at the harbour mouth;
And madly danced our hearts with joy
As fast we fleeted to the South:
How fresh was every sight and sound
On open main or winding shore!
We knew the merry world was round,
And we might sail for evermore."
My mixed media painting, a companion to "Joy" is inspired by the beautiful Tennyson poem The Voyage.
I have used a rigid canvas board as my surface and used a variety of media in this painting, acrylic inks, paints and mediums along with snippets of poetry and fragments of letters written on tissue dating from the 1800s which add texture and interest to the foreground.
The subject is one close to my heart, like so many a beach and sea view is my happy place. Whilst I do t paint that many landscapes or seascapes I always enjoy them so much.
I have protected the surface with varnish and signed both the front and the back.
Please note that as all computer moniters are calibrated differently the colours on your screen may be slightly different to the actual painting colours. There are a combination of deep blues and turquoises in the sea which are not picking up well on my screen...
