Walking home through the envy-inducing streets of Crouch End there seemed to be not a soul about. The lights were coming on in the houses as the sky darkened but before curtains started to be closed. as I slowed down, choosing which house to buy when the lotto ticket I never remember to buy comes up trumps, a fox trotted confidently past with its tail raised.
In ‘Evensong’ I tried to capture that confidence, the raised tail and total lack of caution around me, owning the street I could never afford. The title refers mostly to the time of day but maybe also the exaggerated Englishness of the scene.
This is the first time I used colour in a print. The light behind the windows seemed such an important part of this scene.
