Standing on the Somerset levels one evening we watched a Barn Owl cast to and fro huntung for its supper.
They fly so silently, and sometimes when you first catch sight of them, all you see is a flash of white as they turn.
They are truly beautiful and magical creatures...unless you happen to be a mouse...
This is mixed media; the background colours were laid down in oil paint and the rest worked up in acrylic and a bit of pen and ink once the oil had thoroughly dried. It's a technique I've been using quite a bit lately because there are tones I can get more easily in oil paint. Sometimes, interesting effects happen because of the diferent materials reacting with one another and that can be quite exciting - and a little risky!
Lightly varnished and framed in a simple wooden frame and all ready to hang.
