Artist's description:

Epona was the Celtic goddess of horses, usually shown riding sidesaddle on surviving stone carvings. I've always been intrigued by the crossover between Roman and Celtic art and religion - the way that classical human forms merge with abstract pattern, creating a liminal space between two worlds. I love bright colour too: here I've balanced strong blue and crimson with golden ochre and the white of our local Camargue horses. This painting offers both a burst of colour and a focus of contemplation on the elementary powers of the world. The spiral figures prominently - a powerful natural symbol looking in on itself and expanding outward at the same time.
