This painting was realized after some sketches made and some photographs taken in Balcik, at the famous (among romanian artists) stone careers. I was very much impressed by their warm colored light which seemed to emerge from inside the rock itself. Also, it struck me the resemblance (in structure) with the archaic temples, so that I begun to imagine seeing columns and facades of temples, even traces of statues on the fragmented walls of mountain limestone rock. I tried to catch their strange light and atmosphere which seduced me, imagining a mythological scene at the shore of the Black Sea.
The canvas is entirely handmade by me, the strong, special painting flax being prepared with glue, chalk dust and water, after a preparation recipe, laid on wooden chassis assembled also by me.
