Artist's description:

“Endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved” said Charles Darwin in the final sentence of his 1858 world-changing book ‘On the origin of species.’

It’s a such a simple and beautiful idea, but came about only after years of scientific observation and rational, logical thinking. The most wondrous thing about natural selection is that it means that we, the human species, are intimately connected to all other living thing. What a glorious fact!

This painting is made using the drypoint method, an intaglio printmaking technique a bit like etching. I incise an image by hand into a polypropylene sheet. Only a small number of images can be printed by hand from this, in this case there were 12, each everso slightly different. Each one is then tinted by hand with watercolour, again creating more slight variations.

Materials used:

Drypoint and watercolour on 300 gsm heavy duty fine art paper

Endless forms most beautiful (2008)
