Artist's description:

The colors incorporated into the painting came from the Zambian tradition, the wooden tools used in in the craft village and the shapes came from the traditional dress. I formed these visual elements from using my knowledge and created my own abstract image in Acrylic on canvas textured paper.
I drew the subject onto the page and then painted the colors required to suit the figurative image. I made the colors very contrasting mostly the scarlet red and black on the foreground. I applied coarse texture paste with my Acrylic paint onto the foreground image so it formed a textured finish on the artwork. The reason for this is because I wanted the foreground image to stand out from the background. On the background I created a smooth finish where I created line and shapes to form patterns and it followed a sequence.
It worked together visually because I applied different visual elements and color variations hence it formed a great piece.
Overall I admired the colors used from my visits in the villages and produced this beautiful abstract painting. The figurative form and the colors inspired me the most!
