This glimpse of light through adjoined tree trunks opens the series, Metamorphosis, a story of becoming, of emerging from the dark and obscured realm of the unseen into an illuminated and realized existence.
The darkroom, the birthplace of this film image, is another place where such transformations occur as the generation of a color image requires the complete absence of light. Similarly, in our own lives, we must endure times of darkness and unseeing before we experience the miraculous unfolding of our whole potential.
The two trees joined at their root synchronously serve as an homage to the eternal love of Baucis and Philemon in Ovid's enduring and epic narrative, Metamorphoses.
"Emersion" was created with traditional photographic film. It is numbered and signed by artist on the back of print in acid-free metallic gel ink.
