Artist's description:

This encaustic painting has had many lives. Several years ago it was a figurative painting of Hungarian dancers. Then, I wasn't happy with that and painted many more layers of encaustic paint and collage over it. A year or so later I decided to get out the gas torch and melt off all the layers, but doing so I began to discover interesting patterns and textures and enjoyed that for a couple of years; then i became dissatisfied once again and scraped off many layers of paint and saw an eye looking at me. I took that as a direction for the latest and final version of the painting

Materials used:

Beeswax, tree resin, colored pigments, oil paint fushed with gas torch

Emerging (2016)
