Artist's description:

The journey started when I was younger. I went to the beach with my brother and while I was laying on the sand something caught my eye. It was a green piece of glass, it wasn't sharp it has been smoothed over by the sea water. So i went on the hunt for more and I put them in a plastic bag. When I got home I realised there was a hole in the bottom and all that collecting was a waste of time. 8 years later when I was 16 I had a holiday in Scotland and I went to the beach to clear my head. I saw a green object so I picked it up and it was more of that smoothed glass again. So me and my 3 year old nephew spent the day collecting bits and piece for the artistic inspiration that had filled my mind once again. I had been to a couple other beaches and collected the green pieces of glass so I had enough. I gave them a good wash; some of them most have been there for decades. I then began gluing anything and everything I could find which was green. I collaged 23.5 carat gold and 13.25 carat white gold with the Japanese technic of marbling on paper. I spent a month struggling to find a glue that would bond the glass pieces to the board but it happened eventually. Then from there it was just a matter of finding green materials to bring out the finesse in the piece. I named it Emerald after Boodles' green fire necklace.

Materials used:

ink, paint, 23.5 carat gold leaf, 13.25 carat white gold leaf, buttons, glass, Swarovski crystals

Emerald (2016)
