Original artwork description:

I attempt to heighten the human condition and a person's emotional reality via the use of colour. To illustrate the feelings one is experiencing.
I used bright vibrant colour to show that this woman was fit and vital and to create a sense of her vibrancy and passion while being trapped by the dull colours all around her. Even the footpath and road outside the store are drab and offer little incentive to step out into them.
The colours behind her head also point to a rainbow of possibility elsewhere beyond this gloom. Or even to a bright memory, weighing like a black cloud on the present moment.
I also liked the theatrical staging of this painting, it reminded me of a play and of course we are all actors in our own stories, in our own plays. I like how she leant back against the post, she looked like a dancer ready to move.
I also like the the use of the post to the extreme right which made the woman more distant in space and psychologically, adrift almost.
Elsewhere.
