One of a series of paintings from earlier this year in which I was trying things out, in this case a certain technique of using transparent paint to create interesting realistic textures which was used to paint the tree trunk and branches. I had originally painted it in a blue monochrome but decided it needed warming up a bit so I washed a transparent green/blue over most of it. The tree is an ancient olive tree on the island of Zakynthos in Greece (Elies Dendro is Greek for olive tree) but due to the cool colours I used it looks more like England!
