During the soft summer the Elderflower, bent by prevailing winds, quickens my heart with its whisper of coming storms.
Starting with a direct, watercolour response to the landscape I produce small, quick paintings capturing the branches of the bent tree. My practice is to take a number of photos of the subject while working – I use these as alternative or additional reference when I return to the studio. In the studio, I manipulate the watercolours and photographic images digitally, combining them to produce a new series of images.
