The inspiration for this little moonrise piece comes from my love for a very special place on the Sea of Cortez in Baja, Mexico. Between La Paz and Cabo San Lucas is an area well-known for Winter wind sports, especially windsurfing and kite surfing. The most exciting conditions are formed when the great North Wind kicks up; "El Norte" brings strong winds in the palms that blow all night and great waves are created. Baja bliss in La Ventana.
This painting is done in thick passages of archival oil paints with only a palette knife, then a light varnish. The textures produced give the piece interest from a distance as well as close-up.
I include a small dark bronze metal display easel which is a great way to enjoy these small masterpieces on your mantel, bookshelf, side table, etc - and it makes a great gift!
