This work uses a combination of artists acrylics and household emulsion paint. The idea and creation of this piece came very quickly in a rush of inspiration and energy, and this is reflected in the words. 'Drunk Upon Your Muses Breath' refers to the intoxicating feeling of being overcome by an idea. It takes over your body and mind and all of your thought and focus is driven to creating in physical form the idea on your mind. Many artists describe this inspiration as something that seems to come from outside themselves and the muse is a mythology and idea which has prevailed throughout history.
Creativity has always been integral in my life, whether painting, writing, taking photographs or simply the way that I see the world. Studying for a degree in Fine Art was a natural choice and the very conceptual based slant of the Fine Art course at Chichester University allowed me the freedom to explore the images and ideas in my head through whichever medium suited the particular concept I was working on. I continue to work across a variety of media including acrylic, spray paints, photography, pastels, ink, pen, and collage. The finished works reflect this diversity, as well as the wide range of influences from geometric abstraction, abstract expressionism, pop art and graffiti through to conceptual art, poetry and literature. My process begins with a thought, a feeling, a momentary fleeting image or line of prose, incorporating humour, pain, and love, in an attempt to capture my peculiar perspective of the world; the dark splendour of the mundane, the imperfections of life and ultimately the beauty of small things.
My current work is quite introspective, exploring the mental and emotional complexities of parenthood, adult relationships, and the false normality of the suburban environment.
