Artist's description:

The constellation Dragon cuts the Little Bear in the direction of Vega.
In most mythologies, its sinuous form recalls a dragon or a serpent, for example that of the Sumerian goddess Tiamat.

In Greek mythology, the constellation would come either from the dragon that attacked Athena in the war between the gods of Olympus and the Titans, or from the dragon killed by Cadmos near the place where he founded Thebes, or from the one who guarded the Fleece. Or of the dragon Ladon who guarded the golden apples from the garden of the Hesperides, and was killed by Heracles.
