A second painting of Donagh Cross in Carndonagh, Donegal. Also known as the High Cross of St Patrick. The cross, which is thought to date from the 7th century, is located on the grounds of a church founded by St Patrick for the Bishop of Clogher’s brother. It is considered one of the most important early-Christian remains in all of Britain and Ireland.
In this painting, elements of colour have been amplified to convey a sense of the spiritual and transcendental that surrounds this monument, but the reality of the substantially worn away imagery on the stones remains true.
