Artist's description:

I recently had an exhibition themed around Arctic Convoys of 1941-45, called 'For Those In Peril..'. The show took viewers on a journey, from Liverpool to Murmansk in Russia, via Scotland, Iceland, and Novaya Zemlya, and asked them to see through the eyes of a young sailor on his first voyage. Dockside is the start of the journey, and the text accompanying it on show read: 1st June 1942: Joining a ship at last, the SS Navarino, modern general cargo vessel, my first. Wonder where she’ll take me, that must be her now. Liverpool Docks, barely lit in an uneasy evening sky, searchlights and tracer seeking out a lone and presumably unidentified plane - Liverpudlians understandably touchy after the blitz.
