Artist's description:

The light is equally as much the subject here as the sitter. Several artist friends were on a painting excursion and we ended up exploring a battered barn together. There were several shafts of light breaking through the walls here and there and it was a perfect setting for a portrait like this. I wanted to capture a reflective moment -- looking outward with hope. So I intentionally emphasized and exaggerated the reflected color and light to bring more dimension and hopeful context to the painting.
