An oil painting of a reclining black woman looking towards the sea.
This painting was inspired by Virgil's epic poem, the Aeneid. After the fall of Troy, Aeneas flees west. One of the places he visits on his journey is Carthage, ruled by the beautiful queen Dido. Dido and Aeneas fall passionately in love. But Aeneas has to move on. He is destined to bring the statues of the household gods of Troy to Rome. His departure leaves Dido heartbroken on the shores of Carthage. In this painting, Dido is watching the sea, longing for the lover who has left.
This oil painting is a handmade, unique artwork, signed at the back. It is painted on linen, using artist grade oil paints, media and varnish. The painting is composed of several overlapping layers that work together to create a three-dimensional effect. You can find more detailed information on my painting method including a few examples of successive paint layers of a painting in the 'Me at work' section of this website.
The artwork will be shipped in a sturdy cardboard box, secured and wrapped in special laminated bubble wrap to ensure the safety of the painting during transport. Shipping is provided by DPD (Europe, 2-5 days) or PostNL (NL, US, Canada, Australia). For NL, PostNL usually delivers the next day after shipping. Outside the EU, the shipping time depends on the time it takes for the package to go through customs.
The shipment is insured and can be tracked, your signature is requested upon delivery.
