Question for the artist?

Artist's description:

The painting depicts a trio of Douglas Devastators above their carrier USS Lexington. The year is 1939 and the aircraft are resplendent in their colourful pre-war paint scheme. In three years time the US Navy Devastator torpedo bombers would be involved in a desperate series of actions at the Battle of Midway where the obsolescent aircraft and crews were virtually annihilated.
