I so enjoyed painting the earlier spire, that I have done another larger version.
I never have much luck growing delphiniums, but I walk past a garden regularly that obviously has the knack. The spires of blue are gorgeous, though rather prone to falling over in the wind. So I had a lot of fun painting this wet in wet. Sometimes it is good to try different subjects or formats. I wanted to capture the freshness and delicacy of the florets.
This is painted with artist quality colours on a 250lb Bockingford paper. I have framed it in a lovely white grained Italian frame and I think it looks lovely, so it is hanging at the top of my stairs for a while. Everyone else seems to be able to lovely shots of paintings in situ. Regretfully I cannot do tasteful lifestyle photography, but I have taken a close up of the frame for you to see.
