Original artwork description:

Is this how King Street, Hereford would have been captured by a modern day L S Lowry or Valette his teacher, during the less restricted days of lock-down? The monumental building at one end is Hereford Cathedral. The shops with offices above are closed. There are few people - in fact just one who is delivering if he can just work our where! So the black bollards stand in for a crowd.

This is another from the Art Challenge between a group of artists who got to know each other in and around Hereford. Setting challenges for each other, either based on an artistic style, medium or subject.

This challenge to be inspired by the style of Lowry - matchstick men and cats and dogs optional. Based on photographs taken by me of the street, bollards, phone box and cathedral, whilst lock-down exercise walking, you'll see a copy of the pencil drawing created prior to laying down watercolour washes in the gallery photos. I've created a collection "Covid Creativity - Art from Lock-down" to put them together as I upload them.

Image 20.3 x 12.8 cm (c 8 x 5") is completed in graphite pencil and watercolour on watercolour paper. The frame is black grained effect with a gold thin edge 31 x 26 x 2.5 cm (12 x 10.25")

(C) of the image remains with the artist

Materials used:

pencil, watercolour
