Artist's description:

Decorative Chinese and Japanese influenced semi-abstract landscape, suggestive of water, sand islands and vegetation. Veins and veils of colour include jade blues and greens, indigo and ebony, ochre, yellow, crimson and white with areas of pearly sheen and some bronze and gold detail, set in narrow black lacquer effect float frame. This picture, like the others in the series began with thoughts of Chinese vertical scroll landscapes, which I enjoyed during my stay in Jiangsu Province ten years ago, but as I moved the paint around and played with glaze and impasto, so many other associations came to mind: aerial view of a river delta.... beaded brocade and silk kimonos, smoke blackened carvings inlaid with mother of pearl.....dissolving lead-lights and stained glass....
