Original artwork description:

A soft, brushy painting of an imagined landscape, somewhere between the real and the fantasical. I was inspired to paint this work after spending time walking in the forests in the central highlands of Victoria, seeing the amazing visual changes in the landscape at different times of day. This image is also influenced by dreams and imaginings, as well as German Romanticism and the ethereal beauty of mist or smoke as it curls and whispers through the air. This painting evokes for me the eucalyptus scent of wood smoke on a brisk autumn morning. To create the work, I began with a vivid yellow under-painting (to give it that soft warm glow), slowly working over it with soft purplish-blues and rich, dark browns. I finished by scumbling areas of pure white over the sky and lower mountains.
