This is my attempt to capture the enormously beautiful and subtly dark colours of autumn as they appear on Dartmoor, the lonely wilderness within a few miles of my home in the southwest of England. It is a magical place, full of history, legend and strangeness, ever-changing with the seasons, swept by wind and rain and illuminated by sudden shafts of sunlight. There are old mine workings and traces of old railway tracks, caves where adders live, marshy areas where your feet sink into the soft peaty soil, wild ponies, bleached skulls of sheep, quiet villages and windswept eroded rocky tors. The views are always spectacular and make me feel lucky to be able to go there whenever I want to. I hope you enjoy the feeling I have tried to share through this artwork.
