An oil painting of a reclining female nude in front of trees, surrounded by a white border.
This is a mythological scene: Daphne is a naiad, a female wood nymph. Her beauty attracted the attention of the god Apollo. Apollo fiercely pursued her against her will. Right before he could get to her she was transformed into a tree by her father, a rivier god. So she escaped her pursuer. To symbolize her new limitless freedom, I choose to paint her in front of the trees while stretching into the white border.
This oil painting is a handmade, unique artwork, signed at the back. It is painted on linen, using artist grade oil paints, media and varnish. The painting is composed of several overlapping layers that work together to create a three-dimensional effect. You can find more detailed information on my painting method including a few examples of successive paint layers of a painting in the 'Me at work' section of this website.
