Original artwork description:

I painted this landscape plein air using black, white and red. The real colors of the view did not matter then. Feeling the farm in the distance seemed more important and those three colors allowed me to do it.

This is a farm in Normandy where they have cows. They cross over twice a day to be milked.

After my experience at the farm and seeing what producing milk entails, I stopped consuming any milk products. The family who run the farm was lovely and kind and treated the animals very well. I just had a hard time with certain things that are necessary in this sector, like: separating the baby cow from the mother a few hours after it is born; they never see each other again. The young one is put in the barn with other babies and fed with bottles. If it is a male, it will be sold for meat after a few months. The same happens with those females that are not able to get pregnant as well as with all the others after they have given birth a few times.
